      Mr. Hugh Lee Phillips, 96, of Beaver Dam, SC, a retired yard conductor for CSX Railroad where he served for forty years, died Friday morning, July 5, 2024, in St. Stephen.

      Mr. Phillips funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday morning, July 9, 2024, in Hood’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Johnson Cemetery, directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Hood’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 2451 Highway 17 A North, Bonneau, SC 29431. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of service on Tuesday at the church.

      Mr. Phillips was born November 21, 1927, in Beaver Dam, SC, a son of Franklin Phillip Phillips and Winnie Wyndham Guerry Phillips. He was a member of Hood’s Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of the Hammerton Masonic Lodge #332 in North Charleston, and Woodmen of the World. Mr. Phillips enjoyed carpentry work and built his own home from notes he had made from other homes being built. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shrimping, and gardening. He was a member and former vice chairman of the local United Transportation Union with the railroad for sixteen years. Mr. Phillips was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

      Surviving are his wife, Julia Drafts Phillips; two sons, Ed Phillips and his wife Billie of Conway, and Jeff Phillips and his wife Teri of Charleston; a sister, Lessie Werner of Oakridge, TN; a brother, Alton Phillips of Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, Michelle Bellamy, Seth Bellamy and his fiancé Kendra, Rachel Phillips, and Kole Phillips; and six great grandchildren, Todd and his wife Whitney, Austin, Aidan, Ian, Heather, and Noah.
